Editor's take
A compact APS-C mirrorless built around real-time Eye autofocus, with 425 phase-detection points and 11fps burst, bundled with the compact 16-50mm power-zoom kit lens.
The a6400 was one of the first cameras to bring real-time Eye-AF tracking down to a mid-range body, and it still autofocuses fast and reliably years later. A tiltable LCD that flips up for selfies/vlogging and a compact E-mount kit lens keep the whole package small and travel-friendly.
There's no in-body stabilization and no headphone jack, both of which push serious videographers toward Sony's newer ZV or higher-end Alpha bodies, but for stills-focused shooters on a budget it remains a strong value.
Pros
- Fast, reliable real-time Eye autofocus
- 425-point AF system covering 84% of the sensor
- Compact body with a tiltable touchscreen
Cons
- No in-body image stabilization
- No headphone jack for video monitoring
- Single SD card slot
Ideal for: Budget-conscious travel and stills photographers who want fast, dependable autofocus.
