Editor's take
Panasonic's second-gen full-frame hybrid adds Phase Hybrid autofocus to a 24.2MP sensor, recording 6K30 and unlimited 4K60 video, bundled here with the 20-60mm kit lens and a full accessory set.
The S5 II's biggest jump over its predecessor is autofocus: phase-detection replaces Panasonic's old contrast-only system, closing a gap that used to send video shooters to Sony or Canon instead. 5-axis in-body stabilization plus the new Active I.S. mode makes handheld walking shots genuinely usable.
779-point phase detection, dual UHS-II card slots, and unlimited 4K recording put this squarely in prosumer hybrid territory, at a price that reflects it.
Pros
- First Lumix with on-sensor phase-detection autofocus
- Unlimited 4K60 and 6K30 video recording
- 5-axis in-body stabilization plus Active I.S. for handheld video
Cons
- Premium price point for a 24MP body
- Kit lens has a modest f/3.5-5.6 aperture
- Still building out its native L-mount lens ecosystem
Ideal for: Hybrid shooters who prioritize video autofocus and stabilization as much as stills.

Very early reviews are glowing, though the sample size on this listing is still tiny.
