Editor's take
Nikon's original Z-mount DX body pairs a 20.9MP sensor with a weather-sealed magnesium-alloy shell, sold here with both the 16-50mm and 50-250mm kit lenses for wide-to-telephoto coverage.
The Z50 remains a compact, capable travel companion: a 209-point hybrid AF system with eye detection, 11fps burst, and 4K30 video cover the basics well, and the flip-down touchscreen makes it vlog-friendly. The weather-sealed magnesium body is a genuine step up in durability from many APS-C rivals at this price.
It's an older platform than Nikon's Z50II now, but bundled with two lenses it remains a straightforward, well-rounded way into the Z system.
Pros
- Weather-sealed magnesium-alloy body
- 209-point hybrid autofocus with eye detection
- Two lenses covering 16-250mm included
Cons
- Predecessor to the newer Z50II, less advanced AI autofocus
- 4K limited to 30fps
- Single UHS-I card slot
Ideal for: Travelers and enthusiasts who want a durable, weather-sealed body with wide-to-telephoto coverage out of the box.
